Collection and garbage disposal trucks typically have closed tipper container with opened side on the top and on the bottom, for solid waste transport. The truck staff is usually composed of two main figures: the driver and some operators apt to collect urban solid waste. The task of these last ones is to verify the success of the collection operation and of the material reversal in the bin and, when the vehicle is on its way, they stay on a dais placed in the back of the truck. As the operation must be as fast as possible, is not efficient to return inside the cabin for the ecological operator after the bin emptying. To avoid the driver to get on and off in each collecting operation, until now it has been a success the photoelectric sensor with direct diffuse to detect the operator presence on the dais. The usage of safety fluorescent jackets could affect the right detection from a photoelectric sensor and cause delays in the collection process. Ultrasonic technology is based on an acoustic wave emission that is not sensitive to target color, glossy and materials too. Furthermore, the Teach-In button, part of Datasensing Ultrasonic Sensors, allows the maximum detection distance regulation, as it allows to detect the target only when it is place at the right distance. UK1 ultrasonic sensor are the perfect technical solution for the described problem and allow to increase the operating efficiency of every vehicle and to give rise a significant management cost saving.
